For a very long time, the French government has chosen to ignore Vichy, its collaborationist system, and its crimes, in an attempt to erase the past and reconcile all French citizens.

Official recognition only came in 1995 when President Chirac made a historic speech that faced up to this dark chapter of our history, going so far as to call it “an offense to our past and traditions”. Although books, films, and the tireless work of historians helped develop awareness on this topic, it is mostly civil society that led the fight against falsification and denial, in the name of truth and justice. The film is about this fight, which spanned over half a century and strongly divided France.
