With medical progress comes an unexpected phenomenon: people with disabilities, who are living longer, now survive their parents more and more. But many of those parents have taken care of their children their whole lives and have sacrificed a lot for them. Today, they are terrified by the necessity to hand over the reins when almost nothing has been put in place to handle these more and more frequent situations. For all families, the question of separation is central: how to separate from one’s child, and admit that this child has their own separate life? But for the parents of people with disabilities, who see their children as very vulnerable, it is an especially great ordeal.
